The Midnight Library—A Twist on Life and Death

Martha’s Book Group will discuss Matt Haig’s The Midnight Library on Tuesday, August 9. Now in paper- back edition, Haig’s innovative book has been on the New York Times best-sellers list for the past 40 weeks. We all have one life to live. We make choices along the way that ultimately determine our fate. In this novel Nora Seed makes a tragic choice to end her life prematurely, only to find herself in the Midnight Library.

The Midnight Library is an afterlife created by the fertile imagination of Matt Haig. It’s a place filled with books and staffed by Nora’s former school librarian. The books present alternatives to Nora’s fateful decision and provide insights into ways her life could have changed.

Haig explores this intriguing complexity without resorting to a maudlin conclusion. All are welcome to join the discussion, which will be held in the Bay Club at 3:30 pm.
