Port Ludlow Women’s Golf Association Update

by Kathy Traci, PLWGA Publicity Chairperson

On July 11, 12, and 13, the Port Ludlow Golf Club hosted the Washington State Women’s Public Links Association (WSWPLA) Championship Tournament, welcoming women golfers from throughout the state. Women players were matched with those of similar handicaps for this three-day event. Some Port Ludlow Women’s Golf League (PLWGA) members who qualified to participate in this event earned a place in the winners’ circle. Visiting players complimented the PLGC management on the excellent condition of Port Ludlow Golf Course. Daily optional luncheon buffets were offered by Dusty Green Café. The awards ceremony followed play on Wednesday.

The WGA/MGA Exchange was held on July 5, with teams of one WGA (woman) member and one MGA (man) member playing a modified Chapman. Following play, the Exchange event culminated with awards announced at the luncheon hosted by the women’s league. The team of Sue Fechner and Jim Conklin won first place in this year’s Exchange golf competition, and the teams of Mandy Whipple/Bob Murphy and Diana Smeland/Bruce Johnston tied for second. On August 5, the men’s league will host the Exchange following a similar format.

The PLWGA Mid-Season Luncheon and General meeting was held on July 27. The winners of the Captain’s Cup Tournament (a match play event) were announced, and the Queen of the Captain’s Cup Tournament was honored. (Forthcoming details will be announced in the next issue of the Voice.)

August PLWGA regular play on Tuesday mornings continues as does casual play at 11 a.m. on Fridays.
–Stay tuned for the Ryder Battle format, a new tournament scheduled for August 23-24.
–The next major women’s tournament is the PLWGA Club Championship, a three-day event that will be held August 29-31.
This event is stroke play and winners, including the Club Champion, are recognized after the tournament and receive their awards at the year- end Awards Banquet.

PLWGA Captain Elaine Raymond invites prospective PLWGA members to play on Tuesday mornings and on casual Fridays. To obtain a tee time, sign up for a league, or inquire about any of the above events, please contact the Port Ludlow Golf Course pro shop.
