Winners of the 2022 Match Play Club Championship

L-R: Queen Sue Fechner, Debi Bozanich,
Bonnie Vahcic, and Elaine Girard.

This past month, Port Ludlow Lady Niners’ Captain Barbara Burke welcomed former member Grace Allen to the Lady Niners’ league and a new member who is currently playing rounds with experienced league members to obtain her GHIN handicap. When her handicap is secured, she will participate in the Lady Niners’ weekly competition for prize money. The Lady Niners “Best of Four Rounds Captain’s Cup Tournament” is being held this year. The men Niners are also participating in a similar Captain’s Cup Tournament. The female and male winners will be announced at the end-of-the-year Niners’ banquet. The Lady Niners’ End of the Year luncheon announcements will include the season’s eclectic winner.

The August 25 Niners’ Couples golf event was well attended. Niners couples also participated in the Dove House Tournament. Chairpersons Mike and Barb Burke have put a lot of thought into monthly games that generate winners while still allowing participants to post their scores towards their GHIN handicaps. Members will be reminded by a Golf Genius email about the games scheduled for Niners’ Couples events (September 22 and October 20). If members are interested in playing, they should sign up on Golf Genius.

Bonnie Vahcic and Lucinda Thompson, as the primary organizers, welcomed 112 women golfers to the Port Ludlow course in July for the Washington State Public Links 2022 Tournament. They also announced local winners in the tournament’s handicapped flights: Lucinda Thompson placed second in the second flight, Debi Bozanich placed third in the third flight, and Peggy Selby placed first in the fourth flight.

Mid-Year Luncheon Chairperson Elaine Girard and PLWGA Social Chairperson Diane Germain planned a wonderful casual affair under the Big Tent at the Marina. Caterers, God Bless Food, provided a yummy box lunch and a putting contest was the highlight of the luncheon activities. The Port Ludlow golf leagues were represented by Jim Mancill, PLGC PGA professional, Diane Germain, Barbara Burke, and Diana Smeland at the Community Opportunity fair in August.

The All-Star Cup Tournament is scheduled for September 13. The last tournament of the year, the PLWGA Club Championship, will be held on September 13, 15, and 17. Play-away days to local courses will take place in the fall and Turney Oswald is planning a super Gal’s Getaway (multiple days playing a group of area courses) for the members.

Port Ludlow PLWGA Captain Elaine Raymond and Lady Niners’ Captain Barbara Burke welcome new prospective members to play with the PLWGA on Tuesday mornings and/or the Lady Niners on Thursday mornings. To play as a guest on Tuesday and/or Thursday, women should contact the pro shop desk at the Port Ludlow Golf Course. PLGC membership is a requisite for league participation.
