The second annual Mitch Black Memorial Golf Tournament will be held on Sunday, September 19. Friends of Chimacum Schools Education Foundation and Port Ludlow Golf Club are sponsors of the event, which supports educational programs at the school where Black taught and coached for more than 30 years.
At last year’s tournament, a large contingent of friends, family, and former students turned out, in spite of the Covid-19 pandemic and intense forest-fire smoke, to reminisce about Black’s kindness, intelligence, and love of golf. Profits from that event funded three $1,000 scholarships for Chimacum graduates and provided $1,000 in educator grants. Another goal for this year’s tournament is to generate funds for the Chimacum High School golf program, which was started by Black and became integrated with Port Ludlow’s rich golf history.
A $400 per-team fee includes a round of golf, lunch provided by The Dusty Green Cafe, and on-course competitions with prizes. For details contact Adam Barrows at the Port Ludlow Golf Course, email Abarrows@portludlowresort.com or phone 360-437-0272.
