Library Lineup Includes Prestigious Writer

Jefferson County Library is sponsoring these events and services: Live Online Author Talk, Online Book Discussion, Book Sale, One-on-One Free Tech Support, and WSU Seed Library.

Live Online Author Talk

Wednesday, August 3, 11 a.m.
to noon. Dr. Marcia Chatelain will discuss her Pulitzer prize-winning book, Franchise: The Golden Arches in Black America. Chatelain, an accomplished scholar of African American life and culture, is a frequent public speaker with expertise in food justice, race and ethnicity, and urban policy. She consults for many media outlets including The Atlantic, C-Span, MSNBC, CNN, and BBC America. Registration is required. See the library website for more details.

Online Book Discussion

Thursday, August 4, from 6:15 to 7:45 p.m.
Adult summer readers will discuss World of Wonders: In Praise of Fireflies, Whale Sharks, and Other Astonishments, an outdoor-themed book by Aimee Nezhukumatathil.

Book Sale

Saturday, August 6, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Friends of the Library will hold a book sale in the bookmobile garage. The sale will include used books, audiobooks, DVDs, and music CDs. All proceeds will support the Jefferson County Library District.

One-on-One Free Tech Support

Jamie Pena, the library’s digital equity navigator, is available for drop-in and scheduled appointments at Jefferson County Library, Port Townsend Library, Quilcene Community Center, and Brinnon Community Center. She can help with low-income connectivity applications and provide basic tech support on a variety of devices.

WSU Seed Library

The bookmobile will continue to deliver a variety of seeds provided by Washington State University Seed Library. As patrons watch their plants mature, they set aside a portion of their generated seeds to go back to WSU for next year’s borrowers. Contact WSU for complete details and schedules.
